Fanzination! shows a careful selection of fanzines comic from the collection donated by Alvaro Pons. It offers a visual tour throughout the history of this type of artistic manifestation, focusing particularly on the Valencian fanzine and the fanzine produced today in our country, not forgetting the classic fanzine of the 60’s. This current visual platform emerges from independence and the alternative spirit and soon becomes a direct weapon of the counterculture, establishing a space where freedom and creative debauchery coexist, where limits exist only to be transgressed.

Fanzines are associated with the underground and counter-cultural movements of the 60’s. By their very nature, fanzines are publications that are born to be forgotten after their explosion of insurgency and provocation; they have a conscious ephemeral will, by denial to circulate through normal culture channels. They are printed many times to be distributed in concerts and bars, although the time has made them evolve to find their own places to grow. These are the festivals and meetings of desktop publishing and fanzines emerged in this century, these are the great drivers of the new “Fanzine Culture”.

Álvaro Pons has donated his fanzines collection and theoretical comicbook publications to the library of the IVAM. It is a collection of about 2000 fanzines, compiled during decades to this day. From the library and in collaboration with Alvaro has decided to create a fanzinoteca, thus giving life to a space for knowledge and dissemination of the fanzine. It will have free access for researchers or interested in the study of this platform. It can be online consulted, matching in category to the rest of subjects. The “fanzinoteca” is in the origins at this moment, material are being received, organizing sections, etc. In the coming months, it will be announced its opening to the research public.

In addition, the Fanzination! exhibition counts on the intervention make by the illustrator and “fanziner”, Elias Taño. On the walls of the library room he will settle and invite the visitor to live the well-known “fanzine culture.”
