Robilant+Voena is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by American artist Jordan Watson, Easier to breathe, part of the 2025 St. Moritz Season. Building upon the success of Watson’s recent exhibition Octavia’s Butler that inaugurated R+V’s new gallery space in Milan, Easier to breathe will feature never-before-seen paintings by the artist that encapsulate his vibrant style and alluring subject matter.

The artist says of the exhibition: ‘The title Easier to breathe follows naturally from my last show, Octavia’s Butler, as both explore themes of freedom, possibility, and the evolution of Black futures. While Octavia’s Butler was a celebration of Afrofuturism, luxury, and reimagined success, Easier to breathe represents the exhale—the moment of relief and clarity that comes after breaking barriers or achieving new heights.'

Through his exhibition in St. Moritz, Watson follows in the footsteps of his fellow New Yorker Jean-Michel Basquiat, who had an important artistic association with Switzerland. The Engadin region in particular provided inspiration for Basquiat, who produced playful paintings representing skiers and the mountainous landscape. Watson's vibrant works depicting Black men and women enjoying such winter pursuits finds resonance in Basquiat's canvases, prompting reflection on parallels between society then and now.
