In 2019, the Botín Centre celebrates the 25th anniversary of Itineraries, the annual exhibition that displays the work of the artists awarded the Botín Foundation’s Visual Arts Grant each year, which has been running since 1993.

In order to mark the Botín Foundation’s continuous support for the most contemporary artistic practice, the Collecting Practices: 25 years of Itinerarios exhibition includes a selection of works by 25 artists who have been awarded grants over these years, offering a broad perspective of the evolution of the artistic practice since the end of the last century.

The work of Lara Almárcegui, Basma Alsharif, Leonor Antunes, Javier Arce, Erick Beltrán, David Bestué, Bleda y Rosa, Nuno Cera, Patricia Dauder, Patricia Esquivias, Karlos Gil, Carlos Irijalba, Adria Julia, Juan López, Rogelio López Cuenca, Renata Lucas, Mateo Maté, Jorge Méndez Blake, Regina de Miguel, Leticia Ramos, Fernando Sánchez Castillo, Teresa Solar Abboud, Leonor Serrano Rivas, Jorge Yeregui, David Zink-Yi reflect the institution’s commitment to recent art and reveal a close relationship with its 210 grant holders, most of whom are well known artists today.

This exhibition is an eloquent witness of how the artistic practice has evolved since the end of the last century, characterised by an extremely marked formal versatility and presenting works in a wide range of formats, from sculpture and installations to photography and video, as well as several combinations of them.

The common ground of the works presented is a strong narrative sense: the creation process can be seen in many of these works. More than ever, the work of art is in itself the presentation of a creative thought process set in time, like a kind of instant snap.
