Lora Schlesinger Gallery is proud to present Remote Generation, Gabriel Sanchez’s first exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition opens with an artist’s reception, Saturday March 2nd from 4-6pm, and is on view through April 13, 2019.
The exhibition is a series of portraits of young Los Angelenos that captures the condition of isolation in a world full of technological distractions. Although more connected than ever with the rise of social media, studies suggest that people are losing their ability to cultivate meaningful interactions. Younger generations in particular – who came of age during this technological shift – have been severely impacted, and report experiencing high levels of social isolation, inadequacy and anxiety that is exacerbated by the culture of hyper-exposure society has embraced. By rendering the internal conflicts and vulnerability of his subjects, Sanchez hopes to bring awareness of this cultural phenomenon to the forefront of the viewer’s consciousness.
Gabriel Sanchez was born in Miami, Florida. In 2018, he earned a BFA in Painting from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has participated in group exhibitions in Los Angeles, CA and Boulder, CO. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
