Lora Schlesinger Gallery is proud to present Equilibrium, Deborah Davidson’s first solo exhibition with the gallery featuring new paintings. The exhibition opens with an artist’s reception on Saturday July 27th from 4-6pm and is on view through August 31st.
Deborah Davidson’s paintings mimic the qualities of a formal portrait, at the same time they go beyond the simple depiction of animals to a greater personal and emotional expression. The works are allegories intended to represent abstract ideas like vulnerability, defiance, and dignity. Suspended in time, animals delicately balance on objects reminding the viewer that tensions are constantly in flux – dominance and submissive, domestic and wild, and most notably balance and fragility.
Davidson received her M.F.A. from California State University, Long Beach. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally. She has been featured in American Art Collector Magazine, the Los Angeles Times, and Artweek. Davidson was the recipient a California Art Council Grant and Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Change Inc. Grant.
