Denise Bibro Fine Art, in Chelsea, NYC is pleased to announce its second major exhibition of Scottish born artist, Carole Robb, Showers with Heroes, running November 15 - December 15, 2018.
Her recent body of paintings provide a feminist perspective of sculpture and the juxtaposition of rendering women in male focused depiction.
Robb’s time in Rome is a great inspiration for her body of work. Her paintings depict iconic historical and cultural figures; some of which she sees as heroic and others as villainous. The portrayal of classic American heroes along with iconic figures in Roman history refer to the predominately male written history. By adding a feminine element she emphasizes the relationship women have with the information they are exposed to in this male dominated world. Yet the women in Robb’s paintings pay no mind to the normally idolized men depicted. These characters empower, yet mystify viewers and encourage them to further discover themselves.
Carole Robb studied painting at the Glasgow School of Art and earned an MFA at the University of Reading in England. She is the recipient of many awards including the British Prix de Roma, a Fulbright Award, and a British Arts Council Major Award. Her artworks can be found in several private and museum collections, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She is the Artistic Director of the Rome Art Program. Robb divides her time in her studios in Rome, London, and New York.
