Denise Bibro Fine Art, NYC presents Greg Chann’s solo virtual exhibition, Konstruct + kolor. Born out of the global disruptions of the 2020 pandemic, Chann’s new series of wall-mounted works serves as both a visual meditation and a reflection on the interconnectedness of our world. His intricate constructions, woven from a diverse array of materials, sizes, and colors, explore themes of balance and proportion, drawing inspiration from ancient symbols like the Chinese Yin and Yang and the meditative complexity of Buddhist mandalas.

“In response to the profound global shifts catalyzed by the 2020 pandemic, I embarked on a creative exploration, giving rise to a series of wall-mounted pieces. These artworks serve as visual reections on the intricate interconnectedness of our world. The swift and widespread impact of COVID-19 underscored our shared humanity, compelling me to construct elaborate, interwoven systems using diverse elements in terms of size, material, and color.

Derived from ancient symbols such as the Chinese Yin and Yang and influenced by the meditative complexity found in Buddhist mandalas, my art invites viewers on a contemplative journey. Conned within the boundaries of a predominantly rectilinear composition, reminiscent of the stepped Manhattan cityscape visible from my Brooklyn studio, my focus lies on proportion, weight, and the delicate balance essential to my creations. I seek to convey harmony through the equivalence between lines, colors, and planes, emphasizing clarity and strength.

Each piece undergoes an airbrushing process with indelible inks, drawing from the vibrant palette associated with 20th-century Fauvist painters, while subtly nodding to Bauhaus principles. Rooted in a deliberate conceptual framework, the evolution of my work takes unforeseen turns driven by curiosity and intuition. As each piece unfolds, formal cues from preceding sculptures guide me, allowing my later works to organically assume a life of their own, progressively less tethered to the original concept”.
