Opening at de Plume this fall: “Bubblegum Princess,” Christopher Johnson’s new solo show of over 50 original works on paper for $300 each. Johnson created this series over the last year in Scotland, Jamaica, New York, and the Jersey shore--each location profoundly impacting the work.

The drawings serve as the building blocks for his large-scale canvases and are distinct with vivid colors, symbolism and a loose approach. The name Bubblegum Princess is a nod to the princess of pop herself, Britney Spears, and her influence can be seen throughout his work.

Working in mixed media, Christopher Johnson tells the story of an extraordinary life. A colorblind vandal who planted his artistic roots on the walls of New York City, Johnson is known as the creator of the Peter Pan Posse art collective and the infamous hip-hop group Team Facelift. In 2014, he received headlines and acclaim for his illegal performance at the closing night of Jeff Koons retrospective at the Whitney Museum. His work has been shown in New York, Paris, and Tokyo. He has designed interiors for The Ace Hotel Manhattan and WIP NYC. He will have a show in Berlin in 2019. His murals, graffiti, and canvasses demand attention and reject the mundane. Johnson studied fine art at the Pratt Institute. He lives and works in New York.
