Lora Schlesinger Gallery is proud to present Of Time and Structure, Ron Rizk’s fourth solo exhibition with the gallery, featuring a new series of paintings. The exhibition opens with an artists’ reception Saturday April 21st from 4-6pm, and is on view through May 26, 2018.
Ron Rizk’s latest body of work integrates the slow narrative of time with the immediacy of abstraction rendered with masterful technical precision. Each painting depicts paper structures placed into invented landscapes that are based on Rizk’s memories of early life in a small mill town. As part of the creative process, Rizk constructs the factory and house structures within the work from paper, which allows for a distillation of information. The result is a purity of form that harmonizes and contrasts with the landscapes likened to the manner in which a piano and violin work together in a sonata.
Ron Rizk received a degree from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and his MFA form the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana. He is a former Professor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing at the University of Southern California Roski School of Fine Arts. He has exhibited nationally since the late 1960’s in galleries and museums across the United States including the Denver Art Museum, CO; Frye Art Museum, Seattle, WA; Grand Rapids Museum of Art, MI; Laguna Beach Museum of Art, CA; Long Beach Art Museum, CA; and Oakland Museum, CA.
