K. Imperial Fine Art is pleased to present its third solo show of the work of Danielle Rante.
"The distance between two points" represents two separate but related bodies of work dealing with Rante’s interest in the history of the earth, outer space, and their unknown places. The first body of work, Cores, is made by layering cyanotype, ink, mica, and screen-printing. It situates ice cores as a lens to the earth’s past, present, and future capturing a moment in time while allowing us to move throughout time. She incorporates elements of the celestial and terrestrial world in each circle that represent the layering of time, planetary gases, and other microbes that are frozen within them. The second body of work, Nebulas and Elements, depict invented land/space-scapes made up of ink washes, gouache, and mica.
Though she references NASA imagery, ultimately these works portray fictitious atmospheres of yet-to-be discovered planets. She thinks of different compositions in atmospheres: from gaseous to metallic, and the life or lack thereof that it might support. The overarching theme in Danielle’s work looks to science and art as means of investigation – both disciplines attempt to describe and understand the world around us and seek to communicate that vision. Throughout her explorations, whether traveling in the world or alone in her studio, she aims to develop a human response to place or concept that goes beyond data and graphs into a more meaningful territory that can connect to an audience on an intimate level.
Danielle has exhibited work nationally and internationally including the International Print Center New York (NY, NY) and both the China Art Museum and University of Art Museum in Shanghai. She has been a recipient of many grants, including the Ohio Art Council’s Individual Excellence award and has attended residencies at Arteles Creative Center (Finland), Kala Art Institute (Berkeley, CA), Headlands Center for the Arts (Sausalito, CA), NES Artist Residency (Iceland), Fine Arts Work Center (Provincetown, MA), and Philadelphia Art Hotel (Philadelphia, PA). And her work is held in public and private collections worldwide. Danielle lives and works in Dayton, Ohio. She is currently an Associate Professor of Printmaking and Drawing at Wright State University. She received her MFA in printmaking from the University of Iowa in 2006.
