Throughout its long history, the artists’ association Den Frie Udstilling’s annual exhibition has taken many forms and experimented with an equal number of concepts. In 2017 video art is in focus, and a cinema has been installed in the central gallery of the Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art. New media works often face challenges when exhibited among more traditional art forms.
This is something this year’s exhibition aims to redress by placing a cinema at the very heart of an exhibition otherwise steeped in history. The daily film programme consists of video works by members of the Den Frie Udstilling, as well as nine Danish and international contemporary artists who have been invited to join this year’s show.
As part of the exhibition programme, every Thursday, artists and theorists in the field of video art will present their take on the medium with screenings, talks and performances.
The artist committee behind this year’s exhibition concept is Camilla Berner, Jørgen Michaelsen and Ebbe Stub Wittrup.
