Now is your chance to experience the French artist Pauline Curnier Jardin’s curious and intense film and installation work Grotta Profunda, Approfundita in the subterranean gallery of Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art.
The work was shown at the Venice Biennale last year, and we are very proud to show it in Denmark for the first time.
Based on her pronounced fascination with the role of women and their portrayal in myths, folklore, film and theatre as heroines, victims, sexual objects, mothers and witches, in Grotta Profunda Approfundita Jardin creates an extraordinary, absurd universe. Jardin is interested in iconic figures like the Virgin Mary, Bernadette Soubirous, Jeanne d’Arc and the Greek goddess Demeter – and especially in women of humble origin who have succeeded in achieving political, military or religious recognition.
