She has a bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics and a Master of Science degree in Exercise and Health Psychology and regularly presents at global industry events and conferences such as IDEA World, Health and Fitness Association, and canfitpro. Ingrid was recently recognized as the 2024 IDEA Fitness Leader of the Year, representing excellence in fitness programming leadership and unparalleled innovation. Her most recent programming achievement has been the creation and launch of MSINGI® - Elemental Movement. Known as the world’s first Afrocentric functional movement practice, MSINGI® improves functional strength and primal mobility through 11 foundational movements. The popular circular class structure engages all movers through intensity level options in the spirit of earth, wind, and fire, with all movements driven by soul-stirring Afrobeats.
Ingrid’s goal is to get all people moving more through accessible and inclusive community-based fitness. Born in New York City to parents from opposite regions of the world, Ingrid was gifted with a global perspective from an early age. Her father hailed from the Caribbean island nation of Barbados, and her mother was from Norway – they both met as employees of the United Nations. Ingrid attended the United Nations International School in Manhattan, and it was there that she was introduced to the sport of gymnastics. Her first coach noticed a talent for dance and athleticism and put a long ribbon on a stick in her hand – from there, a passion was ignited and an 11-year journey dedicated to training, performing, and competing in Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics was born.
Ingrid was able to see the world as an athlete, representing the United States in competitions in countries such as Mexico and the Czech Republic, culminating in the 1991 Pan American Games in Cuba. Further exposure to different countries and cultures inspired a true love of learning through travel. Ingrid has lived in four countries: the United States, Kenya, Japan (where she taught English with her husband), and Canada, where she now resides. It was her time in Nairobi between ages 10 and 13 that made a profound impact on her global view, fused with a passion and purpose for healthy active living. This time would later manifest into the MSINGI® Elemental Movement practice.
Upon marrying her husband, Ingrid took another international sojourn, teaching English in central Japan for three years. During this time, Ingrid’s first son was born while she completed her master's degree in Exercise & Health Psychology. Upon returning to Canada, Ingrid joined the YWCA Metro Vancouver as an independently contracted personal trainer. This evolved to a full-time position where the values of equality for women were cemented in non-profit work supporting women’s access to health and wellbeing services. After eight years at the YWCA, Ingrid was invited to join the Steve Nash Fitness World merger. In this role, she was tasked with updating and aligning two different fitness organizations with compelling fitness class programming. At its peak, SNFC had 23 clubs in operation in the province of British Columbia, servicing over 100,000 members.
The global pandemic of 2020 caused the company to shut down temporarily in March, but it reopened as Fitness World Canada in August of that same year. Ingrid is now the director of fitness classes at Fitness World, overseeing classes and programming that are delivered by 150+ instructors and personal trainers. Ingrid takes pride in educating and motivating a diverse and dynamic team that delivers quality class programming to a growing membership base that has almost returned to pre-pandemic levels. Ingrid’s side passions are presenting and speaking at fitness industry events, writing articles about fitness and wellbeing, and serving as a resource for quality information and inspiration to the public about living a healthy lifestyle.
Ingrid is driven by her own experiences of finding empowerment and optimism through sport, physical activity, and creative movement. Recognizing how many people struggle with their own health and/or body image issues motivates Ingrid to continue to create accessible and inspired avenues by which more and more people find and stay on their own impactful fitness journey to better health and wellness. This leads to collective longevity, and enhanced quality of life, ultimately resulting in an evolved humanity and a better planet.
Ingrid enjoys an active family life in the natural playground of beautiful British Columbia (Squamish/Musqueam/Tsleil-Waututh Nations). Hiking, biking, running, snowshoeing, and racquet sports are all favorite pastimes. Ingrid’s ability to be relatable, informative, compassionate, and inspirational leaves audiences with actionable tools to apply to their reality, for enhanced active living, better health, and wellbeing.
