As a Brazilian currently living in Ireland through a language exchange program, fulfilling my childhood dream of living abroad feels surreal. Growing up, curiosity fueled my world. My home wasn't just a place, it was a space that validated my questions and, most importantly, encouraged me to dream big. This fostered a deep desire within me to create and be part of something greater than myself.
My artistic journey has been very varied. From explorations of music to the expressive strokes of painting, I embraced various art forms. Experimentation was (and still is) my muse. It wasn't just about the finished product; it was the love of discovery and the joy of seeing what emerged from the creative process. This exploration nurtured my inner child, allowing it to not simply "grow up" but rather mature and expand its playful curiosity into a career and a way of life.
So, after years of artistic exploration, when it came time for university, fashion design emerged as a natural culmination of my passions. It offered a creative realm with a multitude of roles, allowing me to explore various facets of the industry. My studies honed my skills in trend research, where I excelled at crafting engaging and informative presentations. It was also during this time that I discovered a new, inspiring direction for my journey: inclusive design.
Looking back, my life has always been a celebration of diversity. Races, sexualities, genders, and cultures—the human body and mind are a spectrum of beautiful expressions. Inclusive design wasn't just a logical extension of my values; it provided a profound purpose for my fashion career. It opened doors to creating possibilities I never thought imaginable. When we break free from pre-defined molds of what constitutes a human being, the results can be truly transformative.
My professional career began as a trend forecaster. I helped small brands develop relevant, brand-aligned collections throughout the seasons. Later, I transitioned into footwear design for one of Brazil's leading companies. There, I had the privilege of working on projects that inspired both myself and, hopefully, our consumers. With time, my expertise landed me the role of lead designer for licensing projects with renowned partners like Disney, DC Comics, and Warner.
During this period, I actively participated in the company's inclusion program. As co-leader of the disability group, I played a crucial role in helping the company understand how to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
My latest adventure involved crossing the ocean to embark on a new life in Ireland. This move has been a catalyst for self-discovery, prompting me to see myself and my culture through a fresh lens. Starting anew at 27 is no small feat, but the rewards are immeasurable.
