Jordan Chelsea Courtenay

Born in England, raised in Egypt, and now rooted in Germany, Jordan Courtenay considers herself a citizen of the world. She grew up in Manila, Alexandria, Cairo, and Valencia before returning to the UK for her Bachelor’s degree. Her childhood was defined by exploring new places, forming new friendships, and immersing herself in new cultures. It cultivated a true love of travel, or, as her mum likes to call it, ‘itchy feet'—an excitement and passion for venturing out into the world and experiencing all that it has to offer.

Jordan has fond memories of holidays spent with her mum, dad, and brother growing up. Living far from their extended family settled in the UK, together they became a home away from home, a team of intrepid explorers. She often reminisces about these experiences from her childhood and is forever grateful for all the opportunities and insights that travel has given her.

Today, Jordan’s wanderlust continues, matched only by her passion and desire to write. Her quest for knowledge, discovery, and inspiration fuels her and seeps into her narratives. She finds herself most inspired, perhaps, when visiting new places, soaking up foreign cultures, and seeing everything there is to see. As her family and friends can attest, she doesn’t travel anywhere new without a lengthy to-do list.

In 2021, Jordan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages and European Studies at the University of Bath, England. She speaks English, Spanish, French, German, and some Arabic, with a keen interest to take on Italian and Russian next.

Choosing a degree in languages was an easy choice for Jordan. Having grown up in different countries, she came to truly understand their importance. As her mother tongue, English was a doorway into her own cultural heritage. At the same time, learning the language and dialect native to those around her broke down barriers, both verbal and non, allowing herself to better integrate and become part of the community. After all, we live in a multicultural world where languages and cultures are inextricably intertwined. Jordan believes this realization can truly allow us to experience the diversity and beauty of the world today.

As well as languages, Jordan studied contemporary European history, from the French Revolution and France’s modern separatism bill to the Weimar Republic and Germany’s far-right. After her third year spent abroad, she concluded the final year of her degree with her Bachelor’s Thesis, a comparative study of secular cultures.

Jordan has always had a great passion for writing, whether creative or informative. Following lengthy, precise, and research-oriented essays at university, she looks forward now to equally free and inspired articles on travel, fashion, and culture. In a society where the humanities are often overlooked, she hopes to prove the transformative power of art, the endless wonder in the world, and the comfort we can find in each other’s stories.

Jordan's journey continues now in Munich, Germany, where she currently works as a Copy Editor for Mytheresa, a leading luxury fashion retailer. As part of her role, she has become proficient in a wide range of writing styles, from concise, captivating, and commercial prose to more in-depth, informative, and detailed content. Her writing has been featured in campaigns with some of the world’s biggest luxury brands, including Gucci, Saint Laurent, Valentino Garavani, and more.

Jordan is also very passionate about music, specifically hard rock and metal. Other interests of hers include fashion, photography, cooking, and sport, as well as both classical and contemporary literature. Today, she lives in Munich with her trusty Labrador, Jessie, and partner, Tim.

In the future, Jordan hopes to work as a journalist and continue to publish her own work as an author. As an avid storyteller and creative wordsmith, she hopes to captivate, engage, and inspire, all the while offering deeper insight into diverse cultures and the universal human experience.

The proof is in the writing, after all, so scroll on down for a read.
