Aminu Mohammed

Welcome to my corner. My name is Aminu Mohammed, and I am a journalist, communications specialist, environmentalist, and writer. I specialize in creating engaging content that resonates with the target audience and drives impactful public relations. Using journalistic principles, I focus on strategic communications and media relations. I am passionate about writing stories on climate change, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, politics, travel, and fashion. My career interests include international relations, political economy, communications, public relations, sustainability, and environmental management. Development is a pressing issue in Nigeria, and working on development issues and poverty eradication interventions has always been my career goal.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, a Master in Public Administration (MPA) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and a Master of Science in Sustainability, Society, and the Environment from the University of Kiel, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. I have also completed a postgraduate programme in digital marketing at Purdue University, USA.

My interest in journalism began during my secondary school years in Nigeria. I started listening to interesting radio programs such as the BBC Focus on Africa and reading international magazines like The Times and Newsweek. This reading habit was further nurtured during my undergraduate days, as I spent my free time reading local newspapers and foreign journals at the university library. My passion for the media was borne out of the conviction that a third-level education relevant to international relations would help me gain knowledge that would allow me to pursue a wide range of possibilities.

I have more than 15 years of experience in the media industry, having worked as a reporter, state correspondent, bureau chief, editor, and also in public relations. Over the years, I gained valuable experience in investigative reporting, content creation, and strategic communications with the goal of inspiring people through the art of storytelling. I have also dedicated my time towards amplifying marginalized voices to evoke change.

My journalism career began in 2006 with THISDAY Newspaper/Arise TV in Lagos, Nigeria, where I served as a Bureau Chief for the North West zone of Nigeria. Additionally, I was the editor of PLATFORM/Muryar Arewa, a monthly magazine, for two years before moving to Germany for studies. Later, I worked as a freelance writer for the Daily Reality Newspaper, where I wrote several articles on politics, education, travel, women's empowerment, and the environment. My writings have inspired groups, organizations, and policymakers to take action with a view to combating climate change and desertification, as well as empowering disadvantaged groups in society.

I have also worked as a social media manager with The European Correspondent, a media organization based in Brussels, Belgium. Currently, I am working part-time in public relations and communications for M14People, a non-profit organization in Munich, Germany. The start-up firm uses applied research to promote the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for public good.

I find great joy in volunteering to help the disadvantaged groups in society, in addition to my writing pursuits. I have volunteered with the Leprosy Mission of Nigeria in Sokoto State for two years, providing support to people affected by leprosy at the Amanawa Leprosy Hospital. Sokoto, Nigeria. Through the non-profit organisation Journalist Against Polio (JAP) and in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), we volunteered to raise awareness and educate rural communities on the importance of polio vaccination in Sokoto, Nigeria.

Since I relocated to Germany, I have volunteered as a public relations and social media content creator for Project-E, a non-profit organisation based in Germany. Project-E focuses on education and women's empowerment. The non-profit organisation established a vocational school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to provide education and training to young girls from disadvantaged families. The aim is to provide them with access to education in order to tackle poverty in society.

You can find me walking at the beach, immersed in a good book or meditating in the park when I am not writing.
