Beck & Eggeling is happy to present the first solo show of Nikos Aslanidis in its Düsseldorf gallery rooms.
The vernissage will take place on Thursday, 26th June 2014 at 7 pm at Bilker Str. 4-6, Düsseldorf, with an introduction by Apostolos Palavrakis, artist of the gallery. Nikos Aslanidis will be present.
Nikos Aslanidis already participated in the successful group-show "Ein Augenblick! Vier junge griechische Künstler' ('An instant - four young Greek artists') at Beck & Eggeling in 2012 where his paintings aroused much interest.
The main feature of Nikos Aslanidis' paintings is their expressiveness and immense formal idiom. His decomposing figures and faces in a fluid space, tantalize and fascinate the beholder and make him peer deeply into the soul of these masked motifs with human or animal traits.
Power and dynamism oppose fragility and dissolution, with Aslanidis focusing completely on his painting, disregarding great gestures and complicated themes. Thus pictures emerge with their very own dimension: expressive, dark, multifaceted and filled with great suspense and mystery. His figures are part of the spaces they are depicted in, they both change and transform, stay in motion, dissolve and merge into each other.
Nikos Aslanidis was born in Giannitsa (GR) in 1980. He studied Fine and Applied Arts at 'Aristotle University' in Thessaloniki and was a guest lecturer in that department from 2010 until 2011. The exhibition "Painting" is his fourth solo show after presentations at Donopoulos IFA gallery in Thessaloniki (2009 and 2013) and Kunstverein Schwetzingen (2013). Group shows with works by Nikos Aslanidis were held in Athens, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Kalamaria, Thessaloniki and Vienna. The artist was awarded various prizes including the Boutari Nouveau Competition, the Fresco and Salty Residence as well as the Deste Foundation with Cosmote. He lives and works in Thessaloniki (GR).
A catalogue will be published on the occasion of the exhibition.
