Downtown Los Angeles’ Corey Helford Gallery (CHG) is proud to announce its next major solo show with San Francisco-based ceramic sculptor Erika Sanada. Set to premiere on Saturday, April 26th, Nestled will be on view in Gallery 3 through May 31st.

Sanada creates beautifully creepy creatures in relationships that are often sweet and sometimes sinister. Inspired by horror and supernatural films and animations, Sanada’s hybrid, imaginary characters are imbued with the artist’s own fears. Her works are both disturbing and fantastic, with their blank, red-ringed eyes, smooth surfaces, and cutesy candy colors. As a perpetually worried soul, her works are a way for the artist to confront the darker side of her nature as well as an outlet for the sensitivities etched on her personality through the bitter experiences of youth.

Regarding her new series, Sanada shares: “My work expresses the constant anxieties I face every day. Since I was little, I always worried about the smallest things and this habit became worse. For a long time, I tried to fight against it, which made me more anxious and restless. However, I slowly started to realize it was easier to cope by accepting that every worry was not the end of everything, and meeting it halfway. They’ll always be a part of me, so this body of work exhibits the nestled relationship I have with my anxieties.”

Open to the public and free to attend, Nestled is set to debut on Saturday, April 26th from 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm in Gallery 3, alongside a group exhibition curated by Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, titled Dreamland Awaits, in the Main Gallery and a three-artist exhibition, titled Sirens, featuring mini-solo shows from internationally-known French artist Ciou (titled The rococo escape plan), contemporary surrealist painter Molly Devlin (titled The veiled valley), and Russian born/Sydney-based painter Yulia Pustoshkina (titled As above, so below) in Gallery 2. The shows will be on view at CHG through May 31st.
