Arvida Byström (born 1991 in Stockholm /SE) is an internationally recognized artist and photographer. Her work has been shown in art exhibitions worldwide. She has worked for numerous renowned fashion brands and magazines and has worked both in front of and behind the camera.
In her work, Arvida Byström explores the social, aesthetic and commercial impact of internet phenomena and technological developments. Her visual language is characterized by a hyper-feminine aesthetic to explore themes such as femininity, body image, social dynamics, new technologies and economic principles. In her implementation, she uses a mix of photography, video, performance and digital media. Her works are often created at the intersection of art and technology and invite the audience to rethink common narratives and develop new perspectives on identity and self-perception in the digital age.
In the exhibition Who's your daddy? she explores anthropomorphic AI beings and examines their "parentlessness" - in particular the lack of a mother figure. Digital and electronic figures with a feminine appearance are juxtaposed with mythological characters such as Venus, Aphrodite and Eve, thus questioning traditional role models and their origins.
Another theme that Arvida Byström addresses in the exhibition is the question of why we create copies of ourselves and at the same time have a deep-rooted fear of these artificial replicas.
