Elisabeth Plank's artistic interest lies in the fundamental questions of painting. Even when she incorporates graphic elements into her compositions or works in small formats on paper, it is always the concerns and conditions of painting that she deals with intensively and consistently.
Questions of composition, formal balance, but also conscious breaks, as well as the selection and use of color, the relationship between motif layers and different image levels are what preoccupy the painter. She succeeds in finding artistic answers that are both individual and intuitive, away from fashions, movements and trends. Elisabeth Plank effortlessly masters the large format. This can be seen in her numerous large-format works, in which the sovereignty of the creation process is inscribed.
In her first comprehensive museum exhibition in Linz Castle, Elisabeth Plank shows a selection of works from the last four decades, including several serial cycles. The latest series of works entitled Lyrics, which consists of sixteen large-format paintings, gave the exhibition its title.
Elisabeth Plank (b. 1960 in Wels) studied from 1979 to 1984 at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna under Oswald Oberhuber. She lives and works in Linz and Vienna.
