Abend Gallery is thrilled to present The sprout of hope, a solo exhibition by Nigerian artist Ifeoluwa Alade. Known for his expressive portraits and symbolic compositions, Alade’s work explores the complexities of human relationships and the shared experiences that define us.
Inspired by the wisdom of Job 14:7, “For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease,” and John 1:4, “In Him was life; and the life was the light of men,” this collection explores themes of hope, renewal, and resilience.
This body of work finds its genesis in the illumination of scripture and the cycles of nature, reflecting life's transformative power. Through careful observation of these patterns, The Sprout of Hope invites viewers to contemplate the beauty of regeneration, even in the face of adversity. The collection seeks to evoke an oasis of hope amidst life’s challenges, serving as a metaphor for resilience and breakthroughs—like finding an oasis in the desert.
The artworks within this series offer a sanctuary of inspiration, reflecting the enduring human spirit and the transformative light of life. Each piece is a testament to the belief that renewal and growth are always possible no matter how profound the loss or hardship. This collection invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys of resilience and to draw strength from the promise of new beginnings.

Meticulously crafted, each piece combines carefully selected subjects, materials, and colours to convey layered symbolic meanings. The works feature an eclectic mix of imagery, including portraits, dried leaves, sticks and branches, mushrooms, broken earthenware, skulls and bones, dead birds, nests, butterflies, and flowers. The thoughtful arrangement of these elements symbolises the fragility of life and the enduring promise of renewal.
Precision guides the execution of the collection, utilising a variety of techniques like acrylics, spray paints, glow-in-the-dark mediums, handheld brushes, palette knives, and stencils. Each medium enhances the depth and meaning of the works, creating a vivid testament to the resilience and enduring spirit of hope.
