Bronze foundry De Olifant. For a long time, it was a vibrant meeting place for crafts from Nijmegen, the region and far beyond. In a colourful interplay, established names and talents yet to be discovered by a wider audience demonstrate the diverse and impactful legacy of the bronze foundry.

Everyone who knows Nijmegen a little can indicate the bronze elephant on the façade in the Priemstraat. For thirty years the bronze foundry De Olifant was a melting pot of creativity and a meeting place for people who shared the same passion, a place where techniques were refined, knowledge was passed on, and young talents could emerge.

It resulted in a wide range of art. Artists who worked with De Olifant as their local base of operations made an impact. Traces of it can still be seen today in Nijmegen, the province of Gelderland and further afield.

Well-known bronze sculptors such as Ed van Teeseling, Huib Noorlander and Andreas Hetfeld appear in a colourful combination alongside contemporary talents such as Nuhrzehra Ulukaya, showing how diverse the legacy of De Olifant is. The works in the exhibition tell the story of the bronze foundry. The rich history, the developments in technique and the new, often rougher applications. For some it is a celebration of recognition, for others a first introduction to a Nijmegen craft.
