The State Tretyakov Gallery presents a chamber exhibition of Vasily Polenov’s landscapes from its funds and private collections. The exhibition is timed to the 180th anniversary of the birth of the major Russian artist of the second half of the XIX century - first decades of the XX century. The exhibition is held in Lavrushinsky Lane, 10, Halls 35-36.

Polenov’s talent as a landscapist revealed itself most prominently in his ability to express subtle nuances of nature in different seasons, especially in the periods of transition from one season to another. Endowed with a unique coloristic gift and special sensitivity to the life of nature, the artist could skillfully convey the state of nature, passing the impressions of this or that motif through the prism of his own soul and life experience, using a sophisticated painting technique.

The preparatory sketches for landscapes, widely displayed at the exhibition, will enable the viewers to trace the inherent features of the master's work at all stages of the performance of his finished pictures of nature, which have become classics of Russian landscape painting.
