In his poem “I Sing the Body Electric”, Walt Whitman compares the human body to the soul, and argues that, in some ways, the body is the soul. Exploration of the body is an artistic tradition — a means to understand physicality and human anatomy, and, more critically, a means of artistic expression.
Our fall exhibition is a demonstration of the myriad ways artists approach this exploration. From the meticulous representationalism of Scott Fraser to the abstractions of Bruce Samuelson, this exhibition celebrates how artists utilize the human body to engage us.
