Founded in 1996 in Tokyo, Ippodo Gallery’s mission is twofold: to not only form deep, lasting relationships with artists and clients, but also foster Japanese culture around the world. These values led Ippodo Gallery to broaden its reach by opening a Gallery in New York in 2008. Throughout these years, the gallery, through support and patronage, has moved from Chelsea to its current Upper East Side location. This Fall, Ippodo Gallery is thrilled to announce our growth as we are expanding to a new gallery space in the heart of NYC’s Upper East Side gallery district.
Unlike any other gallery in New York, Ippodo Gallery is committed to creating a holistic art and cultural experience. From the on-site handcrafted tea stove to hosting tea ceremonies at the United Nations, it is clear that Ippodo Gallery is dedicated to presenting tea ceremonies as the core of Japanese culture. This ancient tradition carries principles of mindfulness, aesthetics, and respect. Ippodo Gallery embraces these principles and in honor of where we have come from and where we are going, we are presenting our final exhibition: Tea Ware and New Beginnings.
On view from August 20 through September 13, 2019, Ippodo Gallery is pleased to invite you to our final exhibition at 86th Street. Featuring tea bowls and tea ceremony-related artwork from some of our most significant artists, this exhibition truly represents the gallery's heart and soul.
