In two blazing glares, for her pierce Sondra Meszaros continues her exploration of counter narratives of female sexuality by deconstructing and reconstructing identities. In this new body of work, the artist references feminist performance practices, exploring radical reorientations and offering new agency to women.
Meszaros passionately collects erotica from the 1920’s and 30’s and uses images in her collection, reworking them to uncover the power dynamic and inequality in the history of image making. She paints, tears and cuts to produce her final artwork that questions desire.
Sondra Meszaros takes inspiration from Dada photomontage, secret pocket erotica, and 19th century correspondence practices. Her new work produces a revisionist female erotic experience.
