Galerie Italienne is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, "Shadows".
"Cast shadows, silhouettes, reliefs and crevices, fleeting, moving traces, or else the persistent presence of darkness… Shadow is on the edge of reality and imagination, of the tangible and the impalpable. Like a ghost, a mysterious double, an emanation ; it haunts the picture’s frame and the photograph’s, or it extends the matter of sculpture.
Shadow fills the image, shadow creates the image and at times takes shape. It is stretched, it contracts, dissolves or is accentuated, depending on the interplay of forms and light. In a word, shadow is alive.
There are haphazard and untimely shadows. But there are others which seem desired, summoned by art and artists themselves… This exhibition pays tribute to these latter, fragile and beloved."
(David Rosenberg, curator of the exhibition.)
