The numismatics rooms of the Carnavalet museum hold about 50,000 pieces of extraordinary variety, illustrating the history of Paris and France.
The collection includes coins (from antiquity all the way to contemporary mints), medallions – such as the one engraved by Jean Warin to commemorate the construction of the Val de Grâce church – tokens (from administrations, communes, individuals), notgeld, seals and signets from different administrations and jurisdictions.
