Luis De Jesus Los Angeles is very pleased to present Mother Comes to Venus, a new short film by Zackary Drucker, to be presented from January 12 through February 9, 2019. An artist's reception will be held on Saturday, January 12th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Written, produced and directed by Drucker, Mother Comes to Venus features trans actress Alexandra Grey and queer rapper Mykki Blanco, and was made in collaboration with Emmy and Golden Globe winning director Jill Soloway (Transparent). The film is the first project for "Queeroes", a short film series developed in partnership with Condé Nast’s LGBTQ+ platform them and GLAAD and Time's Up initiative 5050by2020.
Drucker's film continues her exploration of trans identity in our present-future everyday life (examined in her other films like She Gone Rogue and Southern for Pussy). Mother Comes to Venus is a glossy send up of Hollywood biz with a very real and humorous point of view. In a post-gender Hollywood she helped create, powerhouse agent Venus Allen is besieged by unexpected events and demanding visitors. Blinded by success and in danger of losing her soul, Venus gets help from an unlikely source, her delightfully spiritual "mother". Mother Comes to Venus paints a sassy Hollywood landscape for the near future.
Zackary Drucker breaks down the way we think about gender, sexuality, and seeing. She has performed and exhibited her work internationally in museums, galleries, and film festivals including the Whitney Biennial 2014, MoMA PS1, Hammer Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, Bonnefantemmuseum, MCA San Diego, and SF MoMA, among others. Drucker is an Emmy-nominated Producer for the docu-series This Is Me, as well as a Producer on the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning series Transparent.
