THE award winning Ffin y Parc Gallery is pleased to be hosting a joint exhibition of landscape work by three well-established gallery artists Beth Fletcher, Pete Monaghan and Anne Aspinall. The exhibition of new works will launch on Sunday, October 14 and is on at the Conwy Valley gallery until Wednesday, November 7. In the two years since her last major show at the gallery, Beth Fletcher has got married and started a family and her new collection of work continues to play with the elements of landscapes.
“Beth’s landscapes sends our eyes searching for the mountains, sky and sea,” explained gallery owner Ralph Sanders. Beth added why this show is so special to her, she explained: “There were times when I really wasn’t sure I was going to be able to make this show happen, so I’m kind of amazed that it even came together at all!
“Making these 26 paintings has taken more time, blood, sweat and tears than possibly any of my previous shows, since 99% of my energy has been going into birthing and raising my baby. It’s the first body of work that has emerged out of this new way of life, with severely curtailed studio time, enjoying my daughter while also trying not to go mad with frustrated creativity. So I’m giving myself a big pat on the back.” Beth studied Fine Art and Art History at Aberystwyth.
Fellow Aber graduate Pete Monaghan, who is sharing exhibition space at Ffin y Parc this month, worked as an illustrator for twenty years. “His background in illustration informs his bold and clear paintings of Welsh vernacular architecture,” explained Ralph.
“From initial sketches in the open, he refines and reworks his images in the studio, layering and covering to create beautiful collages.”
Also exhibiting is artist Anne Aspinall, who trained at Manchester College of Art and Design. She describes herself as a colourist. “Her subject is the coastline and domestic landscapes of North Wales which she has been watching and painting all her life,” added Ralph.
Anne joked about how she suffers for her art adding: “For some of my paintings in this show I got caught in two storms, hurricane winds, torrential rain but luckily Moelfre was still beautiful.”
