In a conjunct exhibition, Renée duRocher presents her Vietnam series titled “XANH” at the Canadian Embassy for “Diversity and Identity” and Zenith Gallery’s 1111 Sculpture Space for “”. duRocher finds inspiration from the places she travels to, in these exhibitions its Vietnam and “XANH” which translate to “Green” in Vietnamese. Labeling herself as a consumed colorist, duRocher found it fitting to use green as a representation of her trip to Sa Pa in North Vietnam.

The terrain of north Vietnam is a very lush and fertile green, based on the terraced rice fields and the mountain range in the area. Focusing on the historical aspect, duRocher lets time and history of the place infuse and transferred on the canvas, while keeping a contemporary artistic approach. In addition to the color she includes the modern-day community of Sa Pa and their traditional and historical garments to express concepts of time and history. “It is not only a question of history or remnants, but also, and primarily, a question of human nature and its relation to the ephemeral, the divine, and eternity. These are concepts that outlive ages and civilizations, and they are deeply anchored in Renée duRocher’s space-time.”
