A Limited edition book will be launched alongside a major solo exhibition of a popular Denbigh-based landscape artist’s new work this May.
Sarah Carvell, one of the most respected female landscape painters in Wales, will be exhibiting at the award winning Ffin y Parc Gallery and launching a signed bi-lingual book, entitled ‘Siwrne /A Journey’, which features her work, from Sunday, April 29 until Wednesday, May 23.
After moving to the North Wales hills with her family as a 4 year old, when her father came to work for Powell Pottery, Sarah was bewitched by the landscapes that surrounded her. Born in Leicestershire in 1964, Sarah grew up in the Vale of Clwyd in Llannefydd and is a fluent Welsh speaker.
After undertaking her Foundation course in Wrexham, she moved on to do a BA Hons. in Fine Art Painting at Loughborough College of Art, and more recently a PCCE at Bangor University in 1992. Sarah worked as an illustrator and in a Ceramics studio, before teaching Art in Secondary Schools and lecturing in an FE College in Manchester. She started painting again after starting a family.
For her solo show at Llanrwst-based Ffin y Parc Gallery, Sarah has painted the landscapes around her Denbighshire home including portraits of houses and still life paintings and also some from around St. Ives where her family love to spend holidays.
“The exhibition is an opportunity for visitors to shake off the winter blues and escape for a while into a painted diary of seasons past and present with an optimistic reminder of what is to come,” explained Sarah. Gallery owner Ralph Sanders added: “To accompany Sarah’s major 2018 exhibition at the gallery, I thought it would be a good idea to produce this limited edition book which shows a glimpse of her journey over the last ten years.
“I treasure the bracing immediacy of Sarah’s work, its warmth, tenderness and honesty and it’s a pleasure and an honour to have her work here at Ffin y Parc. I am sure everyone who visits us will enjoy the show and enjoy this book.”
