Throughout his career Waite has focused on memory, specific times and places, and how those memories shift when merged with our emotional relationship to those spaces.
He explores how our minds create something wholly new, and existing differently for each of us. The addition of unnatural fluorescence solidifies the feeling of peering into someone else’s personal film, marked by the passing of time.
The paintings in Thresholds came about from recent encounters with locations in Los Angeles, Cincinnati, New York, Barcelona, Madrid and New England. Waite’s paintings are included in several prestigious public collections, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
