This year for Miami Art Week, Marcel Katz will be curating a group show titled “Mood Swings” with Oliver Cole Gallery, a stunning 5,000 square foot gallery in the heart of Wynwood Art District. The show will feature available works and installations by independent artists, both local and international, to provide an unforgettable experience. Featured artists include AholSniffsGlue, Arinze Stanley, Ayo Filade, Black Crow Studios, CB Hoyo, Dan Alva, DetroitWick, John Paul Fauves, Malone, Mister E, Robin Velghe, Shawn Kolodny, Zevi G, and more. The Pink Lemonade and Arsenic will be the event media partners.
“Coming from Miami, I’ve always embraced culture and diversity. It’s important to express yourself and to get your a message across. Art is a great outlet for this: you can create a meaning out of no meaning. Art can evoke a feeling and get people in different moods. This is why I chose a diverse group of talented artists in “Mood Swings”. The viewer can feel different emotions, like mood swings, as they view the works on display,” Katz explains.
The show will feature an activation room called “Raise The Caliber” with artists DetroitWick & Black Crow Studios and non-profit The Caliber Foundation, providing guests experience using all five senses- Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, and Touch. Doug Schwartz, the creator behind DetroitWick, uses gun parts called “shreds” and turns them into lucite sculptures that evoke cultural commentary on the very questionable notion of gun control.
Guns from all across America, turned into buy-back and amnesty programs, along with shell casings from Detroit and Miami crime scenes, are turned into dynamic sculptures whose proceeds with benefit The Caliber Foundation. The Caliber Foundation, a 501 c3 charity, is dedicated to supporting the victims, families, and communities affected by gun violence in America.
