The new exhibition of the MOCAK Collection consists of two distinct and very different parts. To the left of the entrance, we present artists born in the 1970s, who live in Krakow. This exhibition supplements the exhibition Artists from Krakow: Generation 1970–1979 (20 October 2017 – 1 April 2018). It will be located upstairs, where we will be showing works created during the last three years. In the show of the Krakow artists from our Collection, painting is the dominant medium. For this reason, on the right-hand side of the new exhibition, you will find mainly the sculpture and objects that the Museum has acquired in the last two years. The artists include Paweł Althamer, Daniel Arsham, Feik Beckers, Krzysztof M. Bednarski, Guido Casaretti, Jan Christensen, Deborah Sengl and Ai Weiwei. On the right, we have international artists, and on the left – Polish artists.
The Krakow artists on display include Rafał Bujnowski, Karolina Kowalska, Paweł Książek, Marcin Maciejowski, Małgorzata Markiewicz, Bartek Materka, Joanna Pawlik and Wilhelm Sasnal. All the works come from our Collection; the exhibition enables the viewer to compare their current works with those made earlier.
Since March 2016, as part of our Collection, we have also exhibited the interactive installation by Krystian Lupa Live Factory 2: Warhol by Lupa, constructed on the basis of the film set for his production Factory 2, which premiered in the Stary Theatre in Krakow in 2008.
The Museum has been assembling the MOCAK Collection from its very inception. Today, it numbers 4 755 works by 279 Polish and international artists. It is MOCAK’s goal to bring the meaning of art closer to the viewer and demonstrate that contemporary art is a significant partner of everyday life and provides a meaningful commentary and indispensable critique of the world in which we live. In that sense, art is at the service of all of us. The Collection is an important tool in helping viewers make friends with art. MOCAK’s task is to facilitate encounters between the audiences and works of art.
