The originality and expressive strength of the pieces constitute the thread of this exhibition. Museo Amparo has already proposed on different occasions a glimpse, not predominantly historical or anthropological, to the objects of ancient Mexico. It is true that the indigenous figures, vessels, masks and other artifacts are testimony of the technology and social relations, illustrating the political hierarchies and providing hints to the ancient world view, yet they are valuable creations themselves.
The typological variety of vessels designed by Mesoamerican ceramists is an aesthetic expression that enriches the cultural heritage of humanity.
Anthropomorphic clay sculpture, one of the most abundant expressions of Pre-Columbian repertoire, especially in Museo Amparo’s collection, also diversified in Mesoamerica in a unique way. It is possible that no other civilization produced such variety of forms and styles depicting the human figure in clay.
