Renata Fabbri arte contemporanea is pleased to announce “Blitz”, a four-handed project realized by Liliana Moro and Francesco Fonassi. The exhibition, entirely conceived for the gallery space, uses sound as the main element. The sonic aspect is, in fact, the trait d’union between the two artists, although their artistic practice focuses on different stylistic fields.

Corn. Corn is everywhere. – Rich in iron ore, many closed mineshafts, foothills of the Appalacian Mtns, sinkholes. Drained and filled-in lake. – There is some kind of telcommunications station 1 1/2 miles down the road, behind a shop called The Warmth Company at 140 Post Office Drive (cross street Soquel Dr.). It has very serious warning signs posted around it referencing cancer. I’ll get more details on it and edit this file (if it’s possible to edit). – There are a lot of hills where I live.

Does the sound ever stop?

Not yet – Not really. Only if I move my head, but it comes back when I stop. It will stop if I play music, but it’s still there, just not as perceptible – In blackouts – Brief intermittent stops, but consistent periods of “droning” from 10pm to 730 am. – I really only hear it when it rains heavily.

Liliana Moro currently works and lives in Milan. When approaching her artworks, one’s perception is that everything you see is strictly necessary. Sound, words, sculptures, objects and performance, etc. create a world that “put on stage” a poetic but also rough reality. They all are territories that belong to one’s individual experience (artist and visitor) and encourage to go beyond from what is just visible. During her practice, freedom is one of the main aspect but the most important one is always the relation between the existing possibilities and the tension on different levels, both physical and poetical, provoked by the relation in itself.

In 1989 she found, together with other artists, “Via Lazzaro Palazzi”, an artistic venue which will be then closed down in 1993. Francesco Fonassi is an artist and sonic researcher who works in several artistic fields. Within an ethical relation and attention towards the knowledge and the other, Fonassi’s artistic practice focuses on the perception’s dynamics and phenomenons, leading the real bumping into its own systems of separation and relation which express a common feeling. By his practice and the listening experience, he would like to analyze and study the human being behaviors and see how people react when exposed to situations such as aggression, isolation, interruption. In fact, using sound as the main medium, he believes that the sonic experience could create both active and passive relationships beyond which marking sharing places. Through actions, recordings, environmental configurations, radio transmissions, listening/audiovisual sessions and sensorial spaces, Fonassi conceives the space for a series of subjects who are no more passive but, on the contrary, percipient and susceptible of creating a unique collective experience, both social and acoustic.

His work has been presented in many different relevant art venues, both national and international. Among them: Palais de Tokyo, Parigi; MAXXI, Roma; CoCA, Torun; Viafarini DOCVA e CareOf, Milano; The Emily Harvey Foundation, New York; Fargfabriken, Stoccolma; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torino; Fondazione Memmo, Auditorium Parco della Musica e Macro, Roma; Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venezia; MAG, Riva del Garda; Museo Pecci, Milano. He was one of the finalists of Furla award (2015) and LUM award (2011). He won the 6Artista award (2012).
