Dubai Opera is the last architecture project opened in Dubai. Being one of the emirates with more leisure options in the UAE, Dubai was missing an iconic space to welcome the most important artists and musicians worldwide.

It officially opened its doors at the end of August. The building is designed by architect Janus Rostock and developed by Emaar Properties, one of the main real state companies in the city. The infrastructure, with a capacity to host 2.000 people, was finished within three years.

The building is a tribute to the maritime history of the country. Its shape represents a dhow, it is a traditional sailing vessel and they are still available for a cruise in the old Dubai Creek. “We looked into Dubai’s heritage and traditions for inspiration to find an architectural language which would celebrate the city’s past, as well as supporting its future," said Janus Rostock in a press release.

The structure offers the possibility to be transformed into three different spaces, from a theatre into a concert hall, and into a ‘flat floor’ mode becoming a banquet or event hall. As per official declarations, “this seamless flexibility enables Dubai Opera to host a wide variety of performances and events including theatre, opera, ballet, orchestras, concerts, fashion shows, live entertainment, conferences, galleries and art exhibitions.”

Dubai Opera also includes an exclusive restaurant on the rooftop with a stunning view of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, Dubai Fountain and Armani Hotel.

One of the peculiarities of the design is a central chandelier composed of 2,900 LED lights that weights around 5.000kg located on the main atrium. It has been designed by Libor Sostak and it is inspired on the maritime tradition as well. The 30,000 individually crafted glass pearls try to imitate the recreate a peal diving experience.

During the last months, several recognised artists have already performed on the space. Placido Domingo was the responsible for the opening concert and the tickets for his spectacle were selling out in less than three hours after it was announced in April.

Sara Baras, Spanish flamenco dancer, was as well one of the most popular performance so far. With only few seats empty during her show, the artist performed Voces, a spectacle presented in Paris in 2014.

But the Spanish artists are not the only ones walking along the stage. Les Miserables will be performing in November and the Russian ballet was offering two shows, Coppélia and Giselle during September.

Dubai Opera aims to be an icon in terms of culture and music worldwide and it is willing to bring the best spectacles in the world for a very exquisite public.
