The First Biennale of the contemporary Arab World is a joint initiative by the Institut du monde arabe and the Maison européenne de la photographie, in Paris. Held from November 10, 2015 to January 17, 2016 this first edition will develop a unique panorama of the contemporary photographers operating in – and on – the Arab world since the early 2000s.
Revealing a great combination of skills between the Institut du monde arabe and the Maison européenne de la photographie, the event will unfold between these two great Parisian cultural institutions, geographically close but only separated by the river Seine. From one bank to another the IMA and the MEP will be the two geographical poles of a path along which visitors will discover several exhibitions presented at galleries and partner spaces.
The aim is to establish a dialogue between the images and point of views, between the Arab World and Europe. Curated by Gabriel Bauret, the Biennale will present works signed by about 50 artists from all around the Mediterranean Sea. An unprecedented exploration of the Arab world, facing the eyes of Western photographers. So many visions of a plural and vibrant region that today spreads and radiates way beyond its borders.
