A great exhibition with a highly scientific content which combines an earnest investigation into the world of food with an entertaining gastronomic approach bound to charm visitors of all ages. Held in the Museum of Natural History in Milan from 28 November 2014 to 28 June 2015, the exhibition is produced by the Cultural Department of the Municipality of Milan, 24 ORE Cultura-Gruppo 24 ORE, and Codice-Idee per la cultura. It constitutes the most important popular science event organized on the key theme of the 2015 Milan Expo.

Curated by Dario Bressanini, the exhibition explores the complex topic of food through a scientific approach: everyday food products that end up on our plate are “dissected” into their main components and analysed in detail. Through a journey across time and space to explore staples such as rice, coffee, cocoa and pasta, the exhibition illustrates the complex history of these products and the difficulties encountered with them before their being integrated into our cuisine. Visitors are led to embark on a multi-sensory rediscovery of food and of the many elements that influence its consumption – such as the environment and people’s expectations and psychology. The exhibition offers a real explosion of flavours, fragrances, images, dishes and cuisines! Visitors will find themselves engrossed in a thrilling itinerary filled with picturesque microscope images, educational videos and interactive games: starting from the beginning of it all – the seed – and ending with one’s favourite dish.
