Monitor Studio is really pleased to host mor charpentier (Paris) for a dual exhibition featuing Argentinian and New York based artist Liliana Porter and young French artist Monamed Namou.
Liliana Porter’s playful works on canvas are tiny visual constructions putting together items and painting. Being as well objects as images, those compositions can be interpreted as charades or play on words, evoking children speech and language-a language made of games beyond words. Most of the works show Lilliputian characters facing a range of titanic duties, recalling mythological narratives, at the root of Western literatures. Mohamed Namou’s series of paintings and sculptures is based on a research on the construction process of an image. The artist indeed tries to identify how an idea, a pure concept, can take a physical body and become an image or an object. He develops his research through a range of works made of raw materials bringing about a possible confrontation between primitive forms of writing and art, and hypothetical images/objects in the making.
Liliana Porter, Buenos Aires, 1941. She works and lives in New York.
