Lilac Gallery New York is pleased to present “Stepping Out in New York,” a group exhibition of oil paintings and photography presenting Cindy Shaoul, Alexandra Roshan Gottlieb, Michelle Hill, Leah Afriat, Julie Filipenko, Laura Okita and Kristina Nemethy, from January 28 through February 25, 2015. The exhibition will open with a reception on January 28 from 7-9 p.m.
Revealing a glimpse into the world of art from woman in New York, the pieces selected for this group show are more about their creators. Women have a relationship with this big city; they play more than one role at home and at work, and certainly are wearing more than just one hat. The works selected are intriguing, visually stunning, impactful, truly original, and indeed their creators are more than just artists. They are mothers, writers, teachers, travelers, marathon runners, builders, art directors, kendo fighters, and most of all, conquering this big city and doing more than merely creating art. This is what encompasses this exhibit; the fact that each artist represented is not only an artist, they are this and so much more.
The art tells about their life, and what is important to them. How their experiences and New York City have influenced them, or simply what gives them the most comfort in expressing themselves artistically. The different energies from the woman presented mirrors the potential and excitement for all of what Manhattan has to offer. In this exhibit each artist is “Stepping Out in New York” in their own way, presenting what is close to them, and how their artwork portrays a glimpse into their lives as an artist and much more.
