The artist Mauricio Parra presents the exhibition "From the Blue Mountain and Memoirs of the Sun at 9h30pm" on September 13th, 2014 (Saturday) at Galeria Mezanino, in Liberdade neighbourhood, in São Paulo. In this brand new show, a series of 28 oil paintings on paper, which has as its theme the landscape and the memory is presented. The exhibition is on display until October 11th, 2014.
The series starts after the return of artist residency artist held that, in July 2013, in the village of Gludsted (Northern of Denmark), when for the first time, Parra looks at a recurrent theme in the history of art: Landscape. The curator is on account of Beatriz Matuck.
The initial works are produced based on three paintings done in the Danish town from direct observation and that here, away from direct confrontation with the landscape, the memories of this experience could be added to the work. This memory which refers to its place of origin, the Paraíba Valley, more precisely Pindamonhangaba (São Paulo). Low and wide landscapes of a nocturnal sun of the northern summer merged into chains of mountains that emparedam his memories of the valley where he grew up.
Mauricio Parra
Born in 1976 in São Paulo, where he currently lives and works. Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Taubaté (Unitau). It is used the techniques of oil painting, the engraving and woodcut to represent the universe of interest to your look. His predominantly figurative work, search progressively aware that the act of painting or writing is more important than the subject itself.
Participated in exhibitions and shows in and out of Brazil, in 2007, received a special award in the 3rd Biennial National Engraving Atibaia; in 2009, honourable mention in the International Small Engraving Salon, in Romania and in the same year the award for Young Artists conducted by Citi Bank Cultural Center. Attended the workshops of artists like Rubens Matuck, who learned about media, oil painting and watercolour, etching the studio of the museum Lasar Segall, which deepened in learning the techniques of engraving, and the studio of master printmaker Robert Grassmann.
In 2013, he performs the solo "Old Place, New Landscapes", recording scenes / objects from his studio. In 2012, he participated as a guest artist of the International Biennial of Prints in Alijo (Portugal), and also held his first paintings of "Landscape Table" solo exhibition at Galeria Mezanino, which becomes part of the group of artists from the gallery of journalist/curator Renato De Cara.
