Casey Kaplan was founded in 1995, originally occupying a five-hundred square-foot loft space on Broadway in SoHo. One year later the gallery doubled in scale and moved to lower Greene Street. These early days took shape with the support, in part, of guest curators, including Daniel Birnbaum (who became the director of the 2003 Venice Biennale one year after his curated group exhibition at the gallery).
