Genevieve “Gen” Northup, MBA, SHRM-CP, HCI-SPTD is a professional speaker, dynamic facilitator, human resources leader and travel writer. A Texas native, Gen moved from the USA to Germany in 2009 with her husband, pets, and 10 suitcases. She lived abroad for eight years and worked first as an HR trainer for the U.S. Department of Defense. Later, she transitioned to a lead writer-editor role in a media organization, where she oversaw 60 magazines, a website, and a team of writers while continuing to write articles and design print layouts.
Gen returned to Texas in 2017. Now, Gen manages the employee success and talent development programs for 1,300 staff and administrators at a college. Her time is spent designing programs and facilitating training to develop the organization's current and future leaders. Outside of her day job, Gen also sells handmade statement necklaces that she creates using vintage finds, serves on the board of operations directors for a professional HR organization, and lends her HR subject-matter expertise to high-profile clients of CopyPress.
Gen continues exploring the world and writing about it, having visited 54 countries to date. She’s snorkeled with manta rays in the Maldives, jumped from Croatian cliffs, hiked the mountains of Morocco, dined at Dubai’s seven-star hotel, cage dived with sharks in Hawaii, prepared pasta with a Michelin chef in Tuscany, toured the Taj Mahal, stayed in a Transylvanian count’s estate at Halloween, scuba dived between two continents in Iceland, and, most recently, survived canyoning in the rainforest of Costa Rica.
