Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Adrian is a versatile and curious writer with a passion for uncovering the intricate narratives that shape our world. He holds undergraduate degrees in history and religious studies, followed by a postgraduate degree in history from the University of Cape Town. Currently, Adrian is preparing to embark on a new educational chapter, pursuing a postgraduate degree in journalism at Humber College in Toronto, Canada. This exciting venture aims to elevate his proficiency in writing, interviewing, and data analysis, laying the foundation for an impactful career in journalism.

Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Adrian loves exploring diverse topics, ranging from the complexities of human history to the dynamics of religious beliefs, to war, politics and economics. Growing up in South Africa has given him a unique perspective into a culturally and religiously diverse country. Adrian has been writing a history of the oil industry, dedicating a chapter (potentially of a book one day) to individual oil discoveries in regions, and how this has impacted their economies.

His post-graduate history thesis focused on the role of Private Military Contractors (PMCs) in the Islamic insurgency in the north-eastern Cabo Delgado province of Mozambique during 2020-2021. Specifically, he looked at the way in which Dyck Advisory Group (DAG), a South African-based PMC, influenced the fight, and what impact that had on both government and rebel forces.

Adrian’s love of history and ancient civilisations has led him to travel extensively in Europe, with the intention to explore as many cultures and civilisations as is possible. He believes firmly that a long historical perspective is essential for any attempt to contextualise an event, as whether we recognise it or not, history’s influence lies in everything.

Nature is all-important to this author, and he has a deep love of trees and the natural world. Adrian has been collecting tree seeds and planting them wherever he goes and would love to plant a 100-acre arboretum one day. Protecting the natural world and limiting human damage to our planet is of great importance to Adrian, who is a keen environmentalist.

When he is not reading or writing, Adrian enjoys exercising – specifically bouldering, running and going to the gym. Through his writing, Adrian tries to answer the questions of his curious mind and is keen to explore as many wide-ranging topics as possible. Adrian hopes to work as a journalist after completing his studies and has an interest in becoming an author.
