Conor Hopkinson is a recent graduate of the University of Liverpool, where he specialised in English Literature and gained a first-class bachelor’s degree. With a passion for writing and a particular interest in the classic noir genre he tailored his dissertation to this topic, receiving a first-class grade on a piece comparing Dashiell Hammett’s 'The Maltese Falcon' novel to its various cinematic counterparts. He is also currently writing a noir novel in his spare time, albeit with a British twist on the archetypal tropes of the genre.

Conor has his mother to thanks for his passions in reading, writing, and the film industry due to her own love of stories which she introduced him to at a very young age. His favourite novel, to date, is George Orwell’s 'Animal Farm', while his favourite film is Wes Andersen’s 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'. His favourite piece of literature, however, is an internet cult-classic short story named 'Psychosis'.

Outside of these sectors Conor also possesses a great deal of interest and involvement in sports, having competed in France, Germany, Malta, and the annual English Schools athletics competition in his youth. Formerly placing his primary focus on the 400m race, Conor has recently opted to tailor his training toward longer distance racing. Within the next couple of years, he aims to run a marathon for charity.

After finishing university Conor undertook a six-month placement at Merseyside Sports Partnership, where he worked alongside a small, but brilliant team of like-minded people hoping to incentivise the community of Liverpool to understand the positives of engaging in physical activity. Working under Danny Woodworth, the pair assisted war veterans in finding an accessible sport which allowed them to become involved in the local community, as well as persuading a variety of local GPs to sign up for the Active Practice Charter offered by the partnership.

Most recently Conor ventured on a backpacking expedition around South-East Asia, which reignited his passion for travel. The trip was undertaken by himself and a small group of friends, however Conor ventured to some countries on his own due to a personal interest in the culture. This expedition included Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Singapore.

In earlier years, Conor interrailed around Europe at the age of eighteen. The list of cities and countries he visited on this trip stretched far and wide, however he fell most notably in love with Berlin and Barcelona. He is currently residing and working out of his hometown, Leeds, where he has been reconnecting with old friends.

Conor has currently visited a total of sixteen countries; however, this is a number he hopes to grow in years to come. In particular he would love to travel around South America at some point in the near future.

Another passion of Conor’s is music, particularly DJ culture and the scene that surrounds it. Known to party, he enjoys music festivals during the summer months. He has a number of friends deeply involved in the scene, either hosting their own events, DJ’ing with big names, or producing and releasing their own records.

His friends would describe him as “a charismatic character with interesting humour.” These are personality traits he hopes will be felt by his audience as he aims to integrate them into his writing.
