Kristen M. Fiani is a writer and teacher at heart and a corporate communicator by trade. Kristen writes about travel, arts and culture for MEER. She is also working on her first full-length manuscript, a family memoir.
Kristen grew up in a New Jersey, USA suburb equidistant from New York City and Philadelphia. This backdrop of diversity, coupled with Kristen’s mixed Mediterranean heritage and desire to contribute to humanitarian work, led her to pursue higher education and professional opportunities in international affairs. She has served organizations including the US Department of State, the US Commercial Service, International Justice Mission and International Orthodox Christian Charities.
Whether through the written word, classroom instruction or client consulting, Kristen strives to help people self-actualize. Among Kristen’s proudest professional accomplishments: she supported the launches of WeCREATE, the first incubator for women in Islamabad, Pakistan, and the US-Pakistan Women’s Council, which affords Pakistani girls and women educational and employment opportunities. Later, Kristen managed internal communications at an Abu Dhabi, UAE hospital whose workforce represented over 45 nationalities, allowing Kristen to meet some extraordinary people from across the globe in the process. Kristen also taught in Georgetown University’s Master of Public Relations/Corporate Communications Capstone program and provided counsel to both her students and their pro-bono clients.
Kristen is an alumna of this same Georgetown University program. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and International Business (with a minor in Arabic studies) from New York University Stern School of Business.
Kristen is a cat mom to two Persian rescues. Kristen and her male cat, Manhattan, were volunteer pet therapists from 2016-2019. They visited patients in nursing and rehabilitation facilities to spread some feline-inspired cheer.
From 2021-2022, Kristen was a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Maryland, USA. This experience opened Kristen’s eyes to the plight of foster youth and the shortcomings of the system supporting them.
Kristen hopes to pursue formal education in the pastry arts as a new venture. An avid fan of television baking shows, all things sweet, functional art, and school, Kristen is excited to explore this new creative outlet and see what confections result.
Kristen often gets questions about her tattoos. She has a copy of her Italian grandmother's common send-off, “Be well, be safe, be happy,” on one hand and, “my darling Kristen,” in her Egyptian grandmother’s Arabic script, on the opposite wrist. She also adorned her canvas with writings from the Gospel of Mary Magdalene.
Kristen is based in Philadelphia, USA.
