White Columns is proud to present an exhibition by the Norwegian artists Eline Mugaas and Elise Storsveen makers of ALBUM, an ongoing magazine project that they began in 2008. The exhibition has been organized for White Columns by Primary Information. This September Primary Information will release a publication collecting the first ten issues of ALBUM. Primary Information describe the project thus: “Created entirely from found images ALBUM is comprised of collages taken from a multitude of sources reflecting the popular imagery found in typical Scandinavian households from the 1960s through the 1980s: etiquette manuals, cookbooks, travel magazines, craft books, fashion magazines, and sexual manuals for children and adults. Each thematic issue provides a panoply of readings through the artists' deft juxtaposition of images in layout and design. While seemingly whimsical, ALBUM provides a sophisticated meta-narrative on the human body, sexuality, and the social lives of images placing the reader in an uncanny arena that showcases how our media likely reads us.” For the White Columns installation, Mugaas and Storsveen will present several new collages including a new large-scale work made for a vitrine.

Eline Mugaas and Elise Storsveen’s project has generously been supported by the Royal Norwegian Consulate General, New York.

This is White Columns second collaboration with James Hoff and Miriam Katzeff of Primary Information, who selected the fourth ‘White Columns Annual’ in 2010.
