After more than a decade of concentrated drawing and printmaking, Mary Judge returns to painting. For this solo show Mary Judge has produced a stunningly complex body of work. Expressed with forceful color choices and optical energy, the new paintings explore mystic, image space, and classic proportions. The artist addresses the formal pictorial concerns of painting, she adds subtle drawn line work resulting in a perfectly taut compositional balance.
This is the artist’s fifth show with the gallery. Judge has shown extensively at galleries and museums in the US, Italy, Great Britain, France, and Turkey including The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, The Heckscher Museum, and The Milwaukee Art Museum. Mary Judge’s work is in the collection of The Victoria and Albert Museum, The British Museum, The Fogg Museum, and The US Embassy in Yemen.
